Who We Are

The Greater Vancouver Synchronized Skating Club (GVSSC) was established in 2016 after Pacific Ice Synchronized Skating Club and Coquitlam Ice Evolution Synchro came together to form a new brand.

Though our club name is new, our skaters and teams have a long-standing history of synchronized skating in BC, boasting dozens of local and national podium placements over the past 15 years.

Greater Vancouver Synchronized Skating’s programs provides skaters with the opportunity to improve their skating skills both as an individual and as a team member in a positive and supportive environment while offering the chance to represent BC as a specialized athlete at a number of competitions and performances annually.

The skaters on our teams are diverse and their experience ranges from one year to 15+. While they all have different experiences and abilities, they share a common passion: a love of synchronized skating.

A proud member of Skate Canada, Greater Vancouver Synchronized Skating Club is non-profit organization run by a Board of Directors.

Board Of Directors

2024-2025

  • Lissa Sutherland

Lissa completed her PhD in Immunology and Respiratory medicine at the University of Nottingham in the UK.

She currently works as a Medical Science Liaison covering rare cancers across Western Canada. In this role, she connects industry with the healthcare system and foster relationships with key stakeholders. She develops strategic plans and executes them across the West to ensure successful outcomes of all medical business ventures for the company, healthcare workers and patients. She has learned the importance of clear ethics, governance and communication and believes that these competencies will be beneficial to the leadership and success of GVSSC.

As an athlete, Lissa was a single skater in Ontario for many years at the Mariposa School of Skating. When she started her bachelor degree at the University of Toronto, she joined the Varsity Blues skating team. It was during her time on this team that she started skating synchro. She found that she loved skating as part of a team and looked to join another synchro team when she moved to Vancouver. The 2023-2024 season is her third with GVSSC. She is involved with all adult teams; skating for A1 and A2 and bodyfilling for A3. This is her first season sitting on the Board of Directors for GVSSC.

  • Alizé Couzigou

Alizé started skating in France at the age of 7, figure skating at a competitive level for 10 years. After settling in Vancouver, she wished to join a team with whom she could share her passion for the sport. She discovered synchronized skating with the GVSSC in 2019, joining the Open team, and has been with the club for 5 years now. She currently skates in the A1 team and sits on the Board of Directors for GVSSC for a second term.

Alizé moved to Canada from France in 2018. With a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from ESSEC Business School, her background lies within project management, business administration, and hospitality. For 5 years, she managed national and international medical conferences, honing strong organizational skills, facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing among a wide array of stakeholders. She is excited to dedicate her time and competencies to the success of the GVSSC this season!

  • Gabriella Johnson

Gabriella (Gaby) started skating at the age of 6, skating as a single skater throughout her childhood and adolescence. While completing her university studies, she got her first taste of synchro as a McGill Martlet on the McGill University Figure Skating Team. Fun fact – Gaby has an identical twin sister who is a righty on the ice, whereas Gaby is a lefty (although she now jumps as a righty for synchro!)

Gaby is an active member of the skating community. Growing up she was a CanSkate program assistant and was always involved with the Vaudreuil skating club, her hometown club, in QC. Since moving to BC, Gaby spends many weekends throughout the season volunteering as an official so you may catch her rink side at non-synchro events.

This is her second season on the A1 team and her first season sitting on the Board of Directors. Gaby is looking forward to another successful season with GVSSC, both on and off the ice!

  • Traci Rexworthy

Traci has skating with GVSSC for many many years, and has also been apart of the GVSSC Board for many of those years. She has skated since she was a child, and has always loved synchro for the team aspect, and has formed many lifelong friendships from the sport. Professionally, Traci has a background in business with a specialization in Human Resources.

Traci currently skates on the A1 team and fills with Secretary position on the Board

  • Nancy Edwards

Nancy has been with GVSSC for three years now. She has been a board member for two years. Nancy has skated Synchro for 15 years now and also competed in Artistic solo. She is an adventure seeker, loves boating, skiing, and anything with speed.

    Cheri Keenan

Cheri has enjoyed skating from a young age. She has skated singles in her youth, as well as synchronized skating, formerly known as precision.

Last year, after a 26-year break, she stepped back on the ice to skate synchro with GVSSC on the A2 team.

One of her happiest moments on A2 was sharing the experience of a synchro competition with her daughter, who skates on the GVSSC youth teams. Through last year's season, she made countless friendships with amazing women, and had an incredible time skating with them. Currently, she is co-sharing the boards fundraising position working on raising funds to go towards team travel.

In her free time, Cheri enjoys hiking, baking, reading, and spending time with her daughter, family, and friends. See everyone at the rink 😊

    Sarah Medeiros

Sarah, a lifelong resident of Abbotsford, has owned and operated her own hair studio for 24 years. She supports her youngest daughter in synchronized skating and her other two daughters in ballet and soccer. Sarah is a passionate advocate for youth mental health and cognitive disabilities, advocating for her oldest daughter's ASD diagnosis and supporting her middle daughter with a chronic illness. She is dedicated to ensuring every child feels valued.

She is thrilled to be on the board of the club for the 2024/25 season, as well as managing the Pre Novice team and helping with fundraising.
